| BCS Teams get $17 million-plus that is
shared with their conference. Therefore,
smart refs realize that if they make calls
that will help one of their conference teams
advance to a BCS Bowl, then they are helping
line the pockets of those that pay them.
Examples that you have probably all seen:
Florida - favorable (and phantom)
15-yard personal foul penalty enables
Florida to escape upset bid by Arkansas.
Read about it
here. Refs admit error but hopes for
huge payout to Florida and the SEC still
alive. Refs promotion and raise sure to come
as well. The call was inexcusable but
clearly started the trend of more like to
come.
Alabama - replay clearly shows LSU
interception that is ruled out-of-bounds,
Alabama retains possession, kicks field goal
in 4th quarter (same drive) making it a
2-score game and securing victory. The game
-
read more about it here - still could
have gone either way but the disturbing
trend continues and the long awaited Florida
- Alabama showdown is imminent and even
though replay is there, millions watching
and the game announcers are telling everyone
what the correct call should be - the refs
are undeterred. They clearly know what to
do. Alabama - Florida will take place
regardless of what happens on the field.
Cincinnati - Another obvious -
lets call it "Payout Call" - the refs have
decided Cincinnati has a much better chance
of getting a Big East team into the
big-payout BCS Game. The #5 Bearcats RB
stretched the ball towards the end zone but
it never got there and it was knocked out of
his hands recovered by West Virginia. But,
the refs decided this was a pivotal moment
and if the call goes against Cincinnati the
$17 million-plus payout might build new
athletic facilities for another conference.
Or, the refs might not get their next and
much more important assignment. The refs
GAVE the TD to Cincinnati and the Bearcats
ultimately win 24-21. Once again, logical
non-partisan announcers disagreed with the
call. Just search goal line call Cincinnati
and everyone will agree - except the replay
official.
Pittsburgh - If the ball is in the
QB's hands in a throwing motion and his arm
is moving forward and the ball goes forward
and hits the ground what is the ruling?
Incomplete...right? Not when there is
a BCS Bowl berth on the line. In this case
PITT still has a great chance to get to a
BCS bowl so the ruling is a Fumble. Once
again, clear-minded announcers Musberger and
Herbstreet think incomplete and ref trying
to get promoted by building a new gymnasium
at PITT and a new library at a couple other
Big East Schools know what to do. Notre
Dame's comeback aspirations are dashed and
the refs blow another one.
I would love to hear from someone -
besides refs doing these games - who
disagrees with any of these calls. Someone
has to do something to just let the games
play out. This is a disgrace and we are not
stupid. We know what is going on. It is
obvious. I am only one guy doing what I can
to help restore fairness to the game. |
